Going deep retro today, following a nifty form called the “Golden Shovel”<\/a> after the poem by Terrance Hayes<\/a>. Have to say these were a heck of a lot of fun to write; like getting to have tea with your ideal poetry jam band.<\/em><\/p>\n

Only in defiance of dismay, does Hope
\nprevail; only in stubborn rebellion is
\nour dry torch kindled, the
\nperilous folly of subversion: this thing
\nthey call passion, but a bird with
\nborrowed, ill-fit feathers
\ndemurely folded up, until that
\nday when the inevitable perches
\nhawk-like far above, to fall in
\ndeadly perfect silence, the
\ntalons taking purchase on the soul,
\ntearing all to pieces; and
\nstill we shiver as the siren sings,
\nstop up our ears with the
\nmemory of a different tune,
\npray for a dawn without
\nconsequence or regret, the
\nfiction of a promise without words;
\nYet prick us, and
\nsee our loved ones bleed, and never
\nwas there rage so fierce, all stops
\ncast off, as all bolts fly at
\nAgincourt, so shall we conquer all.<\/p>\n
