\nSeagulls flying down main street<\/strong>
\nWhy does it seem incongruous today?
\nReason would suggest that they’re the same ordinary lake gulls
\nthat buzz our parking lots & pick at our garbage
\nAnd yet, today it seems as if there might be
\nsome grand conspiracy, some avian plot
\nas they dip and dive, casing out the buildings, measuring traffic flow
\nall in preparation for some secret rebellion, some white-feathered coup.<\/p>\n
\n Does that mean that today I look my age?
\n Or is it a cultural transplant of politeness?
\n Would he say that to a fresh-faced young student
\n still learning the maze of our one-way streets and hellishly steep hills?)<\/p>\n
\nhangs back and smokes, while her child plays in the street<\/p>\n
\nknowing they’re big, and fast, and dangerous
\nbut so easy to forget, as you move from one fascination to the next
\ntoday, in this moment, it’s watching the leaves collect in the gutter,
\nmulticoloured fly-weight boats riding the cold currents of November winds,
\ncongregating around the sewer grates.<\/p>\n
\n adhere to the porcelain curves?
\n A map of subtle imperfections,
\n and the rate at which things cool:
\n liquid, solid; love & friendship;
