There’s a piano in the alleyway
\nbeside Black Honey
\nthree people are gathered around it
\nas I walk by;
\nOne of the guys is sitting
\non the piano stool, not playing;
\nSeems criminal, to sit
\nat a piano and not play.<\/p>\n
It’s a nice day for walking
\ndownhill in the shade
\nnot so much uphill,
\nweighed down
\nby borrowed books.<\/p>\n
The girl ahead of me
\nmatching steps with a boy
\nhas tattoos all down her right side;
\nthe left is pristine, unmarred;
\nBut then, I’m only seeing her
\nfrom behind; perhaps she’s
\na mirror image from the front.<\/p>\n
When faced with imbalance,
\nwe all compensate in one
\nway or another;
\nI keep mentally rearranging
\nthe tattoos, redistributing them
\nevenly on both sides;
\nFrom this distance, they are
\nunintelligible, amorphous
\nsmudges of darkish brownish green.<\/p>\n
When faced with imbalance, we
\nall compensate in one way
\nor another, lest we all
\nfall
\ndown.<\/p>\n
